    Veteran Student Perspectives: The Value of an MBA

    Join a panel of current veteran students to hear about their experiences at HBS. The session will include a panel of current first-year and second-year student veterans moderated by Professor Matheson, Faculty Advisor to the Armed Forces Alumni Association. All prospective applicants are welcome to join this event.

    Jim Matheson was a Navy F-14/18 pilot, TOPGUN Instructor and Officer-in-charge of the Navy’s West Coast Adversary Unit and retired in 2008 as Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2001 and then began a second career in entrepreneurship and investing in sustainable energy. Most recently, Jim joined the HBS Faculty in 2019 as a Senior Lecturer and currently teaches the EC Entrepreneurial Finance Course and is a Faculty Affiliate of the Business & Environment Initiative. He is also an active investor and Board Director & Advisor for several companies and VC/PE investment groups including Breakthrough Energy Ventures and The MIT Engine. 
     
    Among other passions, Jim is active with climate change, veteran related issues and supporting post-partisan politics, and loves being outdoors, live music, and reading, especially history and the annual Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child.
