NOTE: This webinar will occur from 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM Riyadh Time Join Professor Ramon Casadesus-Masanell and Khalid Al Omran as they discuss Professor Casadesus-Masanell’s recent series of case studies on Maestro Pizza, a company that opened its first store in 2013 in Riyadh and offered affordable high-quality pizzas. Maestro grew rapidly and under the radar at first, but soon enough caught the attention of international pizza giants who had been operating in the country for nearly two decades. That was when Maestro found itself locked into a costly, seemingly relentless, multi-year marketing and pricing war with the market leader at the time; Domino’s pizza. Join us as Professor Ramon Casadesus-Masanell and Khalid Al Omran reflect on Al Omran’s journey with Maestro and his experience of participating in an HBS case study.
Ramon Casadesus-Masanell is the Herman C. Krannert Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School. He joined HBS in 2000 where he has taught the required MBA Strategy course, an elective course on Competing Business Models, and Ph.D. courses on Strategy and Game Theory. He also teaches in several HBS Executive Education programs including the Owner/President Management Program (OPM), and Strategy—Building and Sustaining Competitive Advantage.
Casadesus-Masanell received his Ph.D. in Managerial Economics and Strategy from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. He received his BA in Economics from Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain.
Khalid Al Omran is the founder and ex-CEO of Maestro Pizza. Prior to founding Maestro Pizza in 2013, Khalid was at McKinsey & Company, where he worked on various functions, including operations, organization, strategy, marketing, and post-merger management. Al Omran is also a board member at Banque Saudi Fransi in Saudi Arabia.
Al Omran graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals in 2006. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from the IESE Business School in Spain in 2012.
